1. Religion-Wise Distribution of Annadata Households
In 2024–25, Hindus make up 87% of Annadata households and 85% of the agricultural population, indicating their central role in India’s farming economy. Muslims account for 9% of Annadata households, while Sikhs form just 2%, but with a high proportion (73%) of Sikh households engaged in agriculture. This highlights regional agricultural concentration among Sikh communities, especially in Punjab and Haryana.

2. Financial Patterns Across Religious Groups
While Hindu Annadata households dominate in size, their surplus income share (76%) is lower than their population share, suggesting lower income retention. Muslims show balanced income and expenditure profiles but lower savings (6%), possibly due to limited saving capacity. Sikhs stand out, contributing 6% of income and 14% of surplus income, showing strong financial efficiency. Their low expenditure (3%) and high surplus suggest disciplined financial management.

3. Farming as the Primary Income Source
Farming continues to be the mainstay for all religious groups. Sikh households derive 73% of their income from farming, the highest among all groups. Hindus and Muslims earn 66% of their income from agriculture, with the remaining 34% coming from non-farm sources, underlining the importance of income diversification for these communities. These trends call for religion-sensitive agricultural and financial policies that enhance both inclusion and economic security.
