While the big cities have the highest number of Super Rich (Annual household income is more than Rs. 2 Crore at 2020-21 prices), they are not the fastest growing cities. In the period 2015-16 to 2020-21, Kozhikode emerged as one of the fastest growing cities (15 per cent per annum), followed by Thrissur and Surat. These cities have recorded highest growth among the Sheer Rich and Clear Rich as well. Delhi’s and Mumbai’s growth, between 2015-16 and 2020-21, by contrast, was much lower at 8.7 per cent and 9.2 per cent, respectively. In most cities, compared to 2015-16, there has been a slowdown in growth in the number of Super Rich in 2020-21. This ties in with the overall economic slowdown due to COVID-19, particularly in the larger cities.
