In southern India, 67 per cent of the households belonged to Aspirer and Destitute categories in 2015-16 and this share declined to 62 per cent in 2020-21. The share of Middle-Class households in the South rose from about 30 per cent in 2015-16 to 34.7 per cent in 2020-21 and the share of Rich households expanded from 2.5 per cent to 4.6 per cent.
